I'm not sure where your numbers are coming from, but there are actually over 40 accredited birth centers in the U.S. right now.

Thanks for your comment. This is an ever changing area of the medical community and always the case when it comes to law. More and more birth centers are becoming accredited, which is a positive thing for pregnant women looking for an alternative to a hospital.
This post was written almost 3 months ago. When I wrote it there were several new birthing centers here in the Twin Cities applying for acreditation. Where are you getting your numbers? I would be glad to give an update if you would like to provide a source for this information.
