Anna, I have written about SAD a lot on my blog, il bel far niente, having suffered with it since a small child. The good news is that I feel better this year than ever before, and though it's a combination of things I believe the major factor is big doses of Vitamin D3, daily, beginning in August (sounds early, I know.)

A good resource you might want to check out is Dr. Henry Emmons' book "The Chemistry of Joy." He's local and that book has been tremendously helpful to me and to many others.

Just call if you want to chat...in the meantime, search "depression" on my blog and you will be able to read about all of the components of my "winter toolkit."

Much solstice (the days are getting longer, yay!) love to you,

Rachel

Yes, and it has gotten worse with the burden of bundling three small children kicking and screaming into snowsuits, hats, mittens, boots and coats in order to leave the house. I've been using Vitamin D, and have gotten some relief. I find it difficult to find time to 'just sit' beside a lamp for a half hour ever day, much less two. Thank you for the reminder to recommit myself to the light therapy.

Good post on something that affects so many people (especially in the midwest). Also, don't forget how effective exercise can be. Just a quick walk (especially in your spring-like weather!) Boost endorphins and getting your heart rate up can do wonders for anyone. Getting 10 inches in Denver today. Wish I could send some your way!
